Toredo Worm Damage & Full Piling Wrap

Marco Island, FL

Down here in SW Florida saltwater, untreated wood pilings get eaten alive by toredo worms — a marine borer that hollows the piling out at the waterline until it can't hold weight anymore. On this job we wrapped every piling in heavy marine-grade black HDPE piling wrap, sealed top and bottom so no water, oxygen or worms can reach the wood. It stops the damage cold, saves the customer from a full piling replacement, and extends the life of the pilings — all at a fraction of the cost of full replacement.

This is what toredo worms do to an unprotected wood piling — chewed hollow right at the tide line where oxygen and saltwater meet. Left alone, this piling fails.

Another example of a wood piling eaten up by toredo worms. The black piece is just a bumper, not a wrap.

Finished job — every piling sleeved in marine-grade black HDPE wrap. Clean look, no more borer damage, and it extends the life of the pilings.
